My hair is the exact same way! I got a curling iron that has three barrels and it makes the nicest curls. I use a Loreal product called Tightly Wound -curl boosting spray gel. They stay all day.

okay my hair is also very hard to curl so what i suggest is use either sleek iron smoother that u can also use to flat iron also and or biolage thermal active spray they work wonders and thats what i use. Also do not put on hairspray until after you curl it like when you make a full row of curls spray with hairspray curl and then spray with hairspray again and hope this helps you alot.

Setting Lotion is the only thing. It will not dry out your hair or make it hard. Your curls will feel soft and have plenty of bounce
